Variant images Show instead of explain: realistic 3D representations for marketing, web shops, and offers

If you are wondering why CGI (computer-generated imagery), then read more on the Why 3D? page.

Read information about the advantages and implementation of digital transformation.

On this page, you will find examples of how products can be presented in online stores with all images for variants and how this works.

You can see these examples in full in our test shop.

Example „Bathroom radiator“:

  • 22 sizes
  • 33 colors
  • Environment plus isolation plus side view

Number: 22 x 33 x 3 = 2178 images

How does working with us work?

1. Categorize variants

  • Visually very different (colors, materials, patterns, shape)
→ separate image series for each variant
  • Only technical differences (size, length, weight)
→ shared image series, possibly with dimensional drawings

continue to the next step

The combination of 3D and programming makes it possible to create any combination or variant:

Example „Dining table“:

  • 11 sizes
  • 10 materials
  • 2 table top thicknesses
  • 2 camera perspectives

That makes 11 x 10 x 2 x 2 = 440 images

2. Define image types
For each relevant variant:

  • Main image (cutout or clear background)
  • Detailed images (material structure, special features)
  • Lifestyle/application image (product in use or environment)
  • Optional: Comparison image between variants
→ Rule of thumb: 3–5 images per relevant variant

Example „Product waste bin“:

  • 2 versions
  • 212 RAL colors
  • Environment plus isolation plus 3 camera perspectives plus sectional view

Number: 2 x 212 x 6 = 2544 images

Example: car wheel rim: different views

3. Production workflow

  • List of all variants + required image types
  • Determine which variants actually receive all image types
  • Create scenes: lighting moods, camera settings, etc. for a consistent look
  • Program business logic, execute renderings
  • SEO optimization: File names & alt texts with variant names, e.g., “sofa-blue-velvet-3-seater.jpg”

Interactive 3D

We can also display the models as 3D versions in your browser.
Operation: Rotate with the mouse, zoom with the mouse wheel.

But compare for yourself which image you want to show your customers. Here interactive 3D – on the right rendering with complete environment

4. Optimize sales channel integration

  • Convert to suitable image and video formats (webp, jpeg, mp4, etc.) – if necessary
  • Create alternative media (note channel requirements)
  • Automatically import all media files (videos and images) via programming (e.g., API interfaces)

Summary

How does it work?

We use the latest 3D software solutions plus our own programmes.

What data do we need?

  1. 3D data from the product: either you already have this data or we can produce new models
  2. Description of all desired images (image concept incl. light, perspective, etc.)
  3. Description of all features and values of all items (e.g. item numbers, colour tables, etc.)
  4. Target format: The appropriate format depends on the application (print, sales portal, own shop)

How long does a project take?

Once all the source data is available, a project takes approx. 1-2 weeks. The finished images are copied directly to your server in the appropriate format on request.

The entire process is designed so that as little manual intervention as possible is required. (no subsequent renaming of images; no conversion of formats; no manual allocation etc.)

5. Monitoring & Optimization

  • Track which variant images lead to more clicks and purchases
  • Replace or reduce low-performing variant images
